Reese Salmon is a proud Wiradjuri woman, fibre artist and designer living on Ngunnawal/Ngambri Country. Working primarily with knitted textiles, she is the founder of Nyiwarri Yarn, a creative practice and small business offering a contemporary take on Indigenous fibre arts. Through hand and machine knitting, crochet, punch needle and sewing, Reese explores themes of culture, connection and sustainability.

Entirely self-taught, Reese began knitting and crocheting at the age of twelve, developing a deep passion for fibre arts that continues to shape her creative journey. Her practice reflects the long tradition of Indigenous women as fibre artists, reimagined through a modern lens. Reese’s recent collection Always Will Be symbolises the enduring connection of First Nations people to Country while drawing attention to waste in the fashion industry.

Since founding Nyiwarri Yarn in 2023, Reese has showcased her work in the PayPal Melbourne Fashion Festival (2024) and been featured in the Women’s Art Register Bulletin Journal. Through her art, she invites audiences to “wear culture on their sleeve,” blending contemporary design with deep cultural storytelling.
