Fire danger rating related closures

Strathnairn Arts is closed on days that the fire danger rating is extreme or above. These closures apply to the entire Strathnairn Arts Site including the galleries, studios, shop and Café Stepping Stone.

Fire rating related shutdowns are rare, usually occurring just a few times every summer but can occur with very little notice, to keep informed about closures join our mailing list or follow us in instagram.

Please note that emergency services issue Fire Danger Ratings and Total Fire Bans. These are independent of each other. Certain facilities may be restricted during a total fire ban see below for more information:

  • Electric kilns can be used during total fire bans as long as the fire rating is below Extreme ( High or Moderate or below).

  • Gas kilns can be used as long as the fire rating is below High. (Moderate or Below) And there is no Total fire Ban.

  • The use of certain power tools is restricted during a total fire ban. This generally applies to tools which use fire or can cause sparks. Welding, soldering, grinding or gas cutting is restricted under a total fire ban.
