Anna Williams & Rosalie Rose

Earth and Sea

Homestead Gallery 1 & 2, 26 August - 20 September

Earth and Sea brings together the ceramic practice of Anna Williams and the textile work of Rosalie Rose in an exhibition that explores our relationship with the natural world through repetition, patience and the quiet act of making. Through the rhythmic processes of stippling and slow stitching, both artists create intricate surfaces that reflect the gradual formations found in landscapes and seascapes.

Rosalie's hand-stitched textile works draw inspiration from the movement and textures of the sea. Working with natural fibres, botanical dyes and found materials, she creates meditative pieces that honour the beauty of the earth and the value of slowing down. Each repeated stitch becomes a record of time, echoing tidal patterns, currents and the ever-changing qualities of water.

Anna's ceramic vessels and sculptural forms celebrate the solidity of the land. Influenced by her background in printmaking, she uses meticulous stippling techniques to build richly textured surfaces on black clay. Her delicate marks recall the winding trails left by moth larvae on scribbly gum trees, transforming natural observations into finely detailed works that reward close attention.

Together, these works create a dialogue between earth and sea, stillness and movement, inviting viewers to consider the power of repetition and the deep connections between making, place and the natural environment.
