Thomas Pearson is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans hand-blown glass and oil painting, with a particular focus on the human figure. His work investigates the body and its narratives through technically sophisticated processes, often pushing the boundaries between function and form, material and metaphor.
A graduate of the National Art School in Canberra, Thomas has trained in traditional craftsmanship while pursuing conceptually driven explorations in glass. His recent body of work centres on a series of Clepsammia—hourglass forms that evoke anatomical and emotional states, referencing the circulatory system and cycles of time. These works explore internal structures through hot sculpting techniques, creating vessels that oscillate between abstraction and figuration.
Thomas honed his skills during a two-year associateship at JamFactory in South Australia and has undertaken international residencies in Murano, Italy, and Belgium. While mastery of glassblowing has been a technical pursuit, he continues to be drawn to the contemplative and symbolic potential of figurative form.
Alongside his glass practice, Thomas maintains a self-taught oil painting practice, often creating intimate portraits that document and honour his family. Looking forward, he aims to integrate his disciplines—glass, sculpture, and painting—into unified bodies of work that reflect both personal narrative and material inquiry.
