Anke Klevjer
love story of sky and mountain
4 June - 29 June, Homestead Galleries
angles push up decidedly
earth lifted up as high as it can
pointing towards forever.
sky descends
soft steps linger
mountain softens and disappears
beneath blanket of shifting light.
droplets descend in growing speed
sinking deep into earth
the merging of matters.
cloud stays the night
reluctant to leave as sun surfaces
promises to return
Artist bio
Anke Klevjer is currently the artist in residence at Strathnairn Arts, where she will remain until the end of July.
Recently relocated to Dharawal Country, Wollongong, Anke works from the shared studio ClayWollongong. Completing her Bachelor of Fine Arts at the National Art School on Gadigal Country, Sydney, in 2015, majoring in Painting, she went on to learn Ceramics at Charles Darwin University in Mparntwe, Alice Springs over 2017 to 2023.
Anke's artistic practice blurs traditional lines between mediums, in her recent work with sculptural ceramic vessels that serve as dynamic surfaces for drawing and painting. She embraces a philosophy of 'unknowing' in her creative process—that paradoxically acts as a guide in her process-driven approach. Her work is rooted in personal experience, drawing on visual inspirations, words, musings and themes which circle around the existential. Increasingly, Anke’s practice reflects on the contemporary world as it intersects with her internal landscape, offering considerations on climate, displacement, and social justice.
