Football trips of the mid-sixties to the early seventies

Homestead Gallery 2 | 16 November - 18 December 2022

'Football trips of the mid-sixties to the early seventies’ is a series of paintings of VFL footballers on their end of season 'footy trip'. Italian cities, cathedrals and piazzas are a highlight.

‘I plan to give a fresh understanding of the cityscapes through the use of bold colours and sharp angles. The footballers will add an element of absurdity to the paintings and also make a comment on the commercialisation of the game in recent decades. They will be paintings of the last generation of VFL footballers that played purely for the love of the game and would never have had an opportunity to go on a trip to Italian cities.’
