Birds, Beasts and Beauty

Official opening 4pm Saturday 18 April 2015 by Ann McMahon, artist and curator.

The ACT Porcelain Artists Association’s exhibition of Birds, Beasts and Beauty presents a collection of porcelain art using both modern and traditional techniques. In keeping with the title, the artists apply their skills and artistry to a variety of forms and shapes. The exhibition also includes pieces painted to commemorate the ANZAC Day Centenary (1915 -2015).

Each of our artists expresses their ideas in an individual manner. Some spend weeks capturing the beauty of a single rose or the blush on a young girl’s face. For some the challenge is to portray the essence of the animal or bird and catch it in that one moment that expresses its beauty of form and movement. Other painters convey their ideas in a more stylised form and see beauty in a line or a shape or a colour. For all it is weeks of planning, painting and firing multiple times before the finished work is ready.
