Daniel Evans
Past resident artist: July - August 2007
Landscape. Environment. Pictorial space. Fired clay. Ceramic artist Daniel Evans is interested in how these elements influence physical, emotional and spiritual existence.
In his latest work, he has created three-dimensional paintings - conjuring up topographical maps, views looking out into the horizon, chunks off the earth, or all of these things simultaneously. These are large scale pieces , created , glazed and woodfired at Strathnairn.
They are both visual illusions that sweep the viewer into distant landscapes as well as physical realities capable of bending sound waves and breaking backs. Ultimately, trying to locate himself physically, emotionally and spiritually within the imaginary and the concrete.
Evans currently heads the Ceramics Department at Vincennes University in Southern Indiana, USA.
